Ashoka

Mauryan Emperor and Patron of Buddhism (ruled c. 268–232 BCE)

Ruled almost all of the Indian subcontinent. He is famous for his conversion to Buddhism after a brutal war and for promoting its spread across ancient Asia, such as erecting stone pillars topped with lion capitals. His policy of Dhamma emphasized social conduct, tolerance, and non-violence.
